If you follow me on Instagram (@PROJECTINSPO) you’ll notice I include a lot of my photos with quotes that inspire me, hoping to inspire you to start living the life of your dreams. Practicing my craft (photography, writing) is what I’ve focused on in the last year, and accepting myself as who I am and how life has shaped me into that person, was the first step I needed to start doing that.

The most important thing that I’ve found, however, is to do what you love. I always got distracted from taking the time to truly search my soul with what fulfilled me when it came to work and my passions. I thought about what would be more likely to make me money. I chased the idea of success, not the idea of happiness. It got to the point where I didn’t even know what it is that made me happy.

If you could wake up every single day to do one thing for work, what would it be? I found these 12 quotes about finding and doing the work that you love because that, my friends, is the only thing that will make you truly happy. And if you don’t know what it is yet, keep searching until you find it.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

“Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart.” – Rumi

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.” – Patanjali

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” – Steve Jobs

“Yes, I’ve made a great deal of dough from my fiction, but I never set a single word down on paper with the thought of being paid for it … I have written because it fulfilled me … I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for joy, you can do it forever.” – Stephen King

“If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go out and sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures. Sweep streets like Handel and Beethoven composed music. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.” – Kahlil Gibran

“I think people who are creative are the luckiest people on earth. I know that there are no shortcuts, but you must keep your faith in something Greater than You, and keep doing what you love. Do what you love, and you will find the way to get it out to the world.” – Judy Collins

“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word – excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.” – Pearl S. Buck

“The law of work seems unfair, but nothing can change it; the more enjoyment you get out of your work, the more money you will make.” – Mark Twain

“The people who make it to the top – whether they’re musicians, or great chefs, or corporate honchos – are addicted to their calling … [they] are the ones who’d be doing whatever it is they love, even if they weren’t being paid.” – Quincy Jones

“Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined.” – Johnny Carson

Your posts are so inspiring and incredibly touching. I was crying when I read the post regarding your travels with the life-sized cutouts of your dad. You’re truly a rock star and I 100% agree with you about happiness and hope to implement it in my own life. I met an amazing man while traveling solo in New Zealand. Two days later we were trekking up a live volcano, 6 months later we were scuba diving in a school of barracuda with turtles passing over our heads, and 1.5 years later we are making plans to marry. This would not have happened if I had decided not to live in the “now”, and am grateful for every decision I made with happiness as a priority.

  • The Queen Of Dreaming

  • Raquel Mars

“I chased the idea of success, not the idea of happiness.”

This resonates really well with me because I’ve been struggling with this. At some point, I chose to drop what I was doing and try to go for what I love, because that’s what I believe in. Although now I’m still working on it, scared and trying to find my place, I trust that it’ll be the right choice in the long run. Because what is success good for if it isn’t accompanied by happiness? In the end, happiness is the true definition of success in my book and I think we leave in a society that it’s forgetting, and making us forget, that very simple notion. It’s a little sad.

Anyway, this is my first time in your blog, I’ll check it out now. But this post was lovely and inspiring, thanks! 🙂
